Will a twin bed fit in an 8x8 room?

The numbers
| Room | 8 × 8 ft (244 × 244 cm) — 64 sq ft |
| Bed | Twin bed, 39 in × 75 in (99 × 191 cm) |
| Floor the bed covers | 32% |
| Gap each side, bed centred | 29 in (72 cm) |
| Gap on one side, bed against a wall | 57 in (145 cm) |
| Gap at the foot | 21 in (53 cm) |
A square room flips the usual problem. In 8 x 8 ft it is the twin's 75 in length that runs out first, so the ends of the bed bind and the sides are comfortable, which is the reverse of most small bedrooms. That 21 in (53 cm) at the foot is the number to hold against your door: if the door swings in off that wall, the swing and the mattress are competing for the same strip of floor, and no amount of rearranging fixes it.
Where to put the bed
Head to one wall, one long side flat against another, so the bed sits in a corner. Cornering it does nothing for the foot gap, but it converts two 29 in (72 cm) sides into one 57 in (145 cm) side, and 57 in is where the wardrobe, the chair and the actual living go. Then treat the foot end as furniture-free: 21 in (53 cm) is under-bed storage depth, not walking depth.
What else fits
More than 64 sq ft suggests. A full-height wardrobe does fit in this room, just not at the foot, so stand it along the open side that cornering the bed opens up to 57 in (145 cm). An 18 in nightstand clears on either side of the bed. The thing that does not work is a 55 in x 20 in dresser at the foot, where only 21 in (53 cm) is available. Load the 8 x 8 into ToScale and slide the wardrobe from wall to wall to find the one it can honestly stand on.

Questions people also ask
- Is an 8x8 room big enough for a bedroom?
- For a twin bed, yes. It covers 32% of the 64 sq ft floor and leaves 29 in (72 cm) on each side, which is enough to get in and out from either side. The limit is the foot of the bed, where only 21 in (53 cm) remains. Keep that end clear of furniture and an 8 x 8 ft room works as a single bedroom.
- Can you fit a wardrobe in an 8x8 bedroom?
- Yes, a full-height wardrobe fits in an 8 x 8 ft room alongside a twin bed, but not at the foot, where there is only 21 in (53 cm). Push the bed against one side wall so the gap gathers into 57 in (145 cm) on the other side, and stand the wardrobe in that.
